TIDCO has proposed Tamil Nadu Ultra-Regional Connectivity Scheme to cater the ultra-regional helicopter services between multiple locations within the state under the UDAN scheme or independently by the private operators within the state. TIDCO has recommended that under the scheme the policy support will be provided for establishment of helicopter-based connectivity or using a light category of airplanes between city/town pairs with adequate traffic.
The scheme is proposed to cover the gaps which exist in the current RCS of the Govt of India and should be an extension of the RCS-UDAN, with additional concessions and VGF for the routes. The scheme envisages to make helicopter operations viable so that they could provide seamless and efficient helicopter services across the state. It will also provide the laid-out support for infrastructure for helicopter operations. This scheme also envisages new opportunities for masses to visit inaccessible locations and tourist places in co-ordination with the State Governments.
Creation of an ultra-regional air connectivity in Tamil Nadu could also result in creation of a robust internal transportation mechanism which would complement the surface transport which are needed for social and economic growth. The proposed ultra-regional air connectivity scheme will also benefit the equipment manufacturers and boost the local manufacturing industry.
